When anyone asks.
"How's your mother?" I usually say. "Like a four month old baby but without the charm." |
With thanks to Jake Howell for this stunning digital portrait based on an original photograph of Joan which can be seen in the slideshow.

Joan's Descent is the account of a journey spanning ten years, the journey of Joan's descent into Alzheimer's disease
Joan was exhibiting symptoms of Alzheimer's disease in her early sixties, but the signs were so subtle that it went unnoticed by her children, who were now occasional visitors, living two hundred and fifty miles away. Her husband kept it hidden and refused to move to be near the support of his children. When he died, unexpectedly, Joan's world fell apart. This is the story of Joan and her daughter, as their lives intertwine over the next ten years. A memoir that will touch the heart because we've all experienced part of this story and if we haven't yet, we will in the future. |
